Brief Introduction
I am a developmental psychologist, educated at Peking University, China, and University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), USA. I have long been intrigued to understand how non-intellectual factors shape individuals’ achievements and well-being in life. Most of my research has been conducted among children, adolescents, and emerging adults, exploring processes of socialization regarding their psychological functioning.
Research Interests
Social and personality development during childhood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood; parents', teachers', and peers' roles in child and youth development; contextual (e.g., cultural, historical, and socioeconomic) influences on socialization as well as child and youth development.
My current research concerns particularly parental emotion socialization, parental academic socialization, smartphone use and parent-adolescent relationships, development of authentic inner compass among youth, and parenthood attitudes among youth. It is hoped that my research will not only fill in the gaps in the scholastic understanding of social and personality development, but also serves the needs of the society to promote the wellbeing of children and youth.
