Required Courses

PSYC5020        Research Methods 研究方法

3 units; 3 Lect.

This course helps students to understand the concepts and methods of quantitative and qualitative data analysis in social research. In particular, students will learn how to apply appropriate statistical methods in various research scenarios and how to interpret the results. The usage of statistical packages such as R and SPSS will be covered. Basic knowledge in statistical methods is a pre-requirement. 

 

PSYC5510        Talent Management 人才管理

3 units; 3 Lect.

This course provides a critical review of issues in talent management. Topics covered include job analysis and evaluation, competency modelling, personnel recruitment, selection and placement, criterion development and measurement, and performance appraisal and management.

 

PSYC6510        Applied Research I 應用研究 I

3 units; 3 Proj.

This course provides students with applied research skills in conducting research within workplace settings. Emphasizing real-world applications, it covers advanced research design, data analysis, and interpretation. Students will learn to address organizational issues through evidence-based research while considering ethical implications, preparing them to contribute effectively as researchers in the field of I-O psychology.

 

PSYC6520        Engagement and Motivation in Organizations 組織中的參與和動力

3 units, 3 Lect.

This is the first course of a series of two courses in organizational psychology. Topics covered in this course include: job attitudes, work motivation, stress, job enrichment, communication, decision making, and conflict management.

 

PSYC6530        Leadership and Group Dynamics 領導力和團隊動力

3 units, 3 Lect.

This is the second course of a series of two courses in organizational psychology that provides a critical review of interpersonal, group, and organizational level issues in organizations. Topics covered include: groups dynamics, leadership and management, organizational development, and cross-cultural issues in organizational psychology.

 

PSYC6560        Learning and Development 學習與發展

3 units; 3 SEM

This course provides a critical review of the psychological issues in learning and development. Topics covered include: training needs assessment, psychological principles to enhance training, types of trainings, coaching and mentoring, technology enhanced training, evaluation of training programmes.

 

PSYC6581        Professional Skills 專業才能

3 units; 3 Lect.

This course offers an opportunity to learn and bring the students’ practical skills that are important for I-O Psychology practitioners to perfection. It focuses on coaching techniques, behavioural interviews, and the use of assessment tools relevant for job analysis, employee selection, performance appraisal, training, and organizational assessment. This course emphasizes real-world applications and ethical decision-making.

 

PSYC6590        Culture and Organization 文化與組織

3 units, 3 Lect.

Individuals and their organizations are embedded in a culture. To fully understand how people think and act in organizational settings, it is important to examine the relevance of the cultural contexts in which these thought processes and actions take place. This course will provide an introduction to the interplay between culture and human cognitions and behaviors in organizations. After establishing a common ground of knowledge on the basic theories and processes related to the studies of culture, students will explore how this knowledge can be applied to understanding a diverse set of phenomena that are relevant to industrial-organizational psychology. Some examples of these phenomena include creativity and innovation, self-regulation, goal synergy vs. conflicts, and team dynamics.

 

PSYC6591        Big Data and Computational Social Psychology 大數據與計算社會心理學

3 units, 3 Lect.

Big Data presents unprecedented opportunities to study human behavior. It has been increasingly used in psychological science to reveal individual differences and group dynamics. This course will introduce students to methods and tools for using Big Data to conduct social psychology research. Topics include characteristics of Big Data, computational text analysis, digital field experiments, and generative AI.

 

Elective Courses 

PSYC6511        Applied Research II 應用研究 II

3 units; 3 Proj.

This course is a continuation of PSYC6510 Applied Research I, which allows students to build upon and to extend the breadth and depth of their project in PSYC6511.

 

PSYC6543        Organizational Placement 實習

3 units, 3 Pra.

Students will be placed to major organizations for internship training. They will work on specific projects in organization under the joint supervision of a manager of the host organization and a teacher from the Division.
