Student Visitors Exchange Programme

Firstly introduced in the academic year 1999-2000, with the aim of facilitating exchanges between our Department and the Departments of Psychology at Peking University and National Taiwan University, the Student Visitors Exchange Programme is organized annually. Undergraduate and postgraduate students, together with faculty members from three universities meet together to exchange ideas and experiences about psychological research and education in these three Chinese societies.

Overseas Practicum for Postgraduate Clinical Psychology Students

Each year, a maximum of six second-year students from our MSSc Programme in Clinical Psychology may have the opportunities to undertaking overseas placements at three prestigious overseas universities in USA, namely, Boston University, University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and Yale University for their fifth placement.

In the summer of 2017, six students went to UCSD, Boston University as well as Yale University to do their clinical practicum.  Photo-1Yale2016-17Students at overseas placement in summer 2017

Term Time Exchange for Undergraduates Students

Each year, the Department nominates maximum two full-year equivalent undergraduate students to The Department of Psychology, University of Southern California, USA (USC), and maximum one full-year equivalent undergraduate student(s) to The Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, Maastricht University, The Netherlands (MU) as exchange students for either one academic term or one academic year. Full-time registered Psychology undergraduate students whom have completed at least one year of university study prior to participation in the exchange and with good academic standing are eligible to apply.

Interested students may apply for the exchange with USC via the Department in January-February, and with MU via the Office of Academic Links (http://www.oal.cuhk.edu.hk/) in October.

Mentorship Programme

The Mentorship Programme was firstly launched in the academic year 2014-15. In 2016-17, 35 undergraduate students were selected and matched with 10 mentors, who are alumni of the Department working in major organizations such as Hospital Authority, Education Bureau, Trade and Industry Department of HKSAR, etc.. The first gathering was held on 4 March 2017 at Prince Hotel, Tsimshatsui, for the mentors and mentees to introduce and meet one another. Through the programme, we aim to enhance students’ educational, social and personal development, and enable mentors to keep in touch with student life and the Department.

Psy-Connection Award

Firstly introduced in the academic year 2012-13, the Psy-Connection Award is an annual prize that encourages the creative use of what is learnt in classroom settings to promote the welfare of humankind. The award is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students majoring in psychology in our Department. The best project will receive an award of maximum HK$10,000.

Three-Minute Thesis Competition

The Three-Minute Thesis Competition is a research communication competition which challenges students to capture the essence of their theses and present a compelling oration within three minutes, in a language that anyone can understand. All final year postgraduate students of the Department are eligible to the competition.
