Study Scheme - Guidelines & Procedures 2009- 10

Recommended Course Pattern

This course sequencing table lists all the courses offered by the different streams with the suggested proposed year of study.

This is a suggested study plan for your reference. Students should also consult their academic advisors for personal advices that cater to their individual needs.

All the undergraduate courses that are currently offered by the Department are listed on the table.  Required courses are marked "X" on the 4th column. The last four columns indicate the courses that fulfill requirements of the four concentration areas (i.e., Cognitive Science, Education & Human Development, Social & IO Psychology as well as Psychology & Health). Students who wish to elect a concentration area are advised to select courses fitting the concentration area.

You are strongly recommended to take the required courses first because they serve as basic foundations for further study of other advanced courses.

PSY 0290 Guided Study in Current Issues
PSY 1000 General Psychology
PSY 1010 Introduction to Statistics
PSY 1020 Experimental Design

If you are interested in PSY4905 "Research Practicum", students are also suggested to take this course in Year 1.

Students who are interested in any of the other practicum courses, i.e., PSY4902, PSY4903, PSY4904, are suggested to take them in Year 3 or later. Please see department guidelines on Course Registration Procedures - Practicum.

We suggest that students to take PSY0390 Undergraduate Independent Study in their second year.

Students who do not plan to take Senior Thesis Research I & II, may take Guided Study in Current Issues in their first or second year and Undergraduate Independent Study in their second or third year.

Students who are interested in pursuing an M.Phil. degree in the Industrial-Organizational Psychology programme, are suggested to learn more business-related knowledge, concepts, and vocabularies. They are strongly encouraged to take an undergraduate course offered by the Faculty of Business Administration which has to be approved by the Department of Psychology.

Students who are interested in pursuing a degree in Clinical Psychology are recommended to take PSY3700 Abnormal Psychology.
