Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology (Full-time)

This programme aims to provide university graduates who did not major in psychology an opportunity to pursue graduate studies in psychology. This conversion programme would prepare more eligible candidates for the professional and research postgraduate programmes in psychology in Hong Kong.

Qualifications for Admission

In addition to the general qualifications, all applicants must also fulfil the "English Language Proficiency Requirement" as stipulated by the Graduate School Homepage before being considered for admission. Please refer to the "Postgraduate Prospectus" issued by the Graduate School for details on these requirements.

All applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Shortlisted applicants who did not take any course(s) of general psychology before must pass a qualifying examination in General Psychology organized by the Division in order to exempt from taking PSY 1000 General Psychology in the first semester (exempted for those who have taken General Psychology previously).

Coursework Requirements

Students are required to complete 27 units of undergraduate courses for graduation within 1 year.

(i) Required courses:    
  (a) 3 foundation courses:
   
    PSY 1010, 1020, 2050;
   
  (b) 2 courses in basic processes from the following:
   
    PSY 3190, 3240, 3300, 3350; and    
  (c) 2 courses in social processes from the following:
   
    PSY 3530, 3620, 3650

(2) Elective Courses:    
  2 courses from (1)(b) or (c) that have not been selected, or from the following courses:    
  PSY1030, 1050, 1060, 2060, 2070, 2780, 3360, 3430, 3450, 3540, 3550, 3630, 3640, 3660, 3700, 3710, 3720, 4620, 4630, 4750, 4810, 4820, 4830, 5010, 5080, 5510, 5620

Other Requirements

Students are required to:

  1. fulfil the overall GPA requirement for graduation - minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (i.e. average "C" grade); and
  2. fulfil the "IT Proficiency Requirement" in order to graduate.

Remarks

  1. Course and Unit Exemption:
    • Students may apply for course and unit exemption for a maximum of 4 courses (12 units). No replacement for the exempted courses is required.
  2. Completion of Programme:
    • To complete the programme, a student must achieve a grade of "C-" or above for each of the 9 required/elective courses taken.
    • In case the student is unable to achieve a "C-" or above grade for any of the 9 required/elective courses taken, he/she will have to re-take the same course(s) in another term when the course(s) is(are) offered again and pass it(them) with a "C-" or above grade. Students are allowed to re-take each failed course only once.
