In
my continuing attempt to teach 'stisfactory' statistics courses, I have
made choices on, e.g., depth versus breadth of topics, preparing students
for a job versus a research career, teaching the steps of a statistical
technique versus when to apply it, and promoting the use of 'by-hand'
computation versus computer software packages. I will present examples
of these choices which, I have found, are relatively easy to make in
large (n > 100) undergraduate courses, but quite difficult to make
in graduate courses. The relevance of my experiences to the ongoing
examination of teaching at CUHK is limited by institutional differences
and other factors. However, I look forward to sharing these experiences,
and to learning about the choices made by CUHK in this domain.
