Abstract
The
desire to be in a loving committed relationship with a partner is an
almost universal human aspiration, and for most people that means marriage.
Healthy marriage is associated with many benefits for the partners,
their children, and the broader community. However, across the developed
world marriage has declined and divorce has increased. This address
will focus on four questions. Does healthy marriage have benefits in
developed societies in the 21st century? What influences whether couples
have healthy relationships? Does relationship education make any difference
to the health of couple relationships? What can we do with what we know?
