Abstract
Stigma
is multi-leveled construct that has attracted attention from various
disciplines. It is considered a “silent disease” that permeates
different sectors of society. In recent decades, more concerted efforts
have been paid to understanding the causes and effects of stigma. This
presentation will introduce some of the major issues related to the
scientific study of stigma. The perspectives of the general public,
individuals with the condition, as well as their family members and
associates will be examined. Future directions on stigma research will
also be outlined and discussed.
